Most cars use a two-wheel drive system where the engine drives the front wheels only. Yet, some drivers prefer a four-wheel-drive vehicle that uses a transfer case to send power to the back wheels.  It is the part that allows you to gain more traction when off-roading, operating on a slippery surface, or driving up or down a steep hill.

You can extend the life of your transfer case by using the following tips:

- Ensure the transfer case is oiled routinely, and make sure it has fluid inside the casing so the gears do not grind on one another.

- When getting services for your vehicle, request that the transfer case gets checked for wear and tear. This examination will allow you to address any issues before they can get worse.

- If you regularly drive in off-road conditions, you should have the transfer box inspected more often.
